- Kyle France's "MMA Minded" goes for 5 victories at  Absolute Fighting Alliance: 2 - "Onslaught".  Long-time American Stand Up fighter, Rocky "StoneFist" France headlined the event with his title fight against Norman Alexander.  Delivering another excellent show for the fans, this fight went to the end of the 3rd round with total domination by Rocky. After getting hit by Rocky early in the first round, Norm quickly wanted the fight to the ground and that is where the majority of the fight was spent. Norm never managed to get Rocky down but instead, after every shot, Rocky stuffed him and ended up on top in Norms guard. Rocky split norm over both eyes and toward the end of the 3rd round the ref stepped in to have the Dr. take a look at the cuts. They quickly realized that Norm was not coherent from all the blood lost and stopped the fight. With this win, Rocky is now AFA's Professional lightweight champion!

In another showcase bout, Brooke "Death by Chocolate" McKillip faced off against Kristina Lopez (125lbs).  This fight was a very dominate performance from Brooke. She controlled much of the fight delivering punches from every position and angle. Toward the end of the 2nd round, the ref had finally seen enough and stopped the fight after a few elbows from Brooke. Brooke is MMA Minded's first and only female fighter and holds an undefeated record.

- recently received the following feedback on our new Jiu Jitus Gis from stand out team member Christopher Arant.

"How's it going, brother? I just got a chance to try out the Gi I ordered from you a few weeks ago, and all I can say is "wow"! Two straight hours of rolling in this thing and it held up as well or better than the Luckys, Korals, and Atamas. And the collar on it is ridiculous! Nobody was able to choke me with it because it's huge and stiff, just like it should be. My instructor even asked me where I got it, because he'd never heard of American Stand Up and was impressed by the quality. Another piece of top notch gear in my collection. On another note, I have a seminar the 15th with the legendary Relson Gracie (founder of our school), and 5 time world BJJ champion Daniel Moraes (our lead instructor)."

- American Stand-Up sponsored Team GETYASOME traveled to Tarkio, Missouri, for the Northwest Fight Club's GOLD RUSH event.  Dustin Hartwig improved his record to 2-1 when he defeated JaMarcus Brown of Leavenworth, KS via tapout due to an arm bar at 2:30 of round one.  Most of the action involved vicious knee strikes while standing in the clinch, however when it went to the ground Hartwig's submission ability quickly ended the match. Nathan Holde (Top Picture) improved to 4-1 with a win over Frank Trombino of Nebraska City, NE. - Buena Vista Fight Club stand out and American Stand Up poster boy…Mike Wade wins the Caged Chaos 170lbs Championship on October 4, 2008 in Abington, Virginia.  Mike defeated the very talented and previously 7-0 Ricky Bouck of Absolute Jiu Jitsu.  Wade trained like a mad man for the event and both fighters seem to ready to skip the weigh in and just get at it as words were exchanged. Bouck’s words helped to focus Wade’s desire finish him and leave no questions!

The fight was give and take during the first round as both fighters tested one another. By the end of the round Bouck was bloodied and wade was hungry for more. - On Friday, September 19, 2008, Raging Wolf Productions held Rumble on the Rez at the Gil Lay Memorial Arena in Irving (Senaca Nation), New York. This event will featured IFL veteran Nate Lamotte taking on the the original American Stand Up fighter, Marcus "Mr. Beatdown" Ajian. The last time Lamotte was in competition, he dropped a competitive decision loss to Chris Horodecki in April.

In fitting American Stand Up fashion, Marcus drove himself from Sandusky, Ohio to New York in order to face the hometown headliner.  Making the entire trip knowing he was being brought in to lose.  Fortunately for team American Stand Up, the promotion did not do their homework and had no idea that they were getting a monster with Marcus.  As usual he defeated another headliner, but this time via guillotine choke in 2 minutes.  Marcus also had the only victory out of the red corner the entire night!  Marcus's next step is a tryout for season 9 of the Ultimate Fighter.

- American Stand Up affiliate, The Buena Vista Fight Club (BVFC), began a second year of brining MMA to the main stream. Last year the BVFC was contacted by Virginia Military Institute, VMI, with the hopes of offering a new club sport to the Keydets. (Keydets are the mascot for VMI) Once all the safety aspects were discussed and a complete understanding of the goals was finalized…the VMI MMA Club was born. The first year was an over whelming success and introduced nearly twenty Keydets to the world of MMA. The group has grown to fifty-six for this year and a waiting list will be formed for the future. VMI already offers instruction in boxing, and ground combative training to all Keydets

To further add to the functional merger of the BVFC and VMI the two coaches are both government employees. A.J. Panebianco is the chief of police for the City of Buena Vista while David Henson is a sergeant for the city. Both coaches have deep roots in wrestling and have coached at various levels from Pee wee to college. In addition, Panebianco is a certified controlled force instructor, a combative technique that the military contracts with for deployment training.

The exceptional work ethic of the Keydets makes the instruction phase a pleasure. They never complain and always want more mat time. The team has several competitions in the works this coming year. They practice twice a week for two hours and we are looking for ways to add days. The mixture of hard cardio and even harder grappling, sparring, and submission training has them chomping at the bit to compete.
