- Last weekend "Jui Jitsu" Joe
Carroll showcased the skills that has made Team Superior one of North Carolina's
most respected and feared MMA teams. Joe won via unanimous decision and is
scheduled to fight again on September 6th. Catch Joe and Team Superior at
the Valhalla Fights hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
- On behalf of the entire team at American
Stand Up we are proud to announce Jamie Ridgeway's "Elite Fighting
Challenge II". Over the past 12 months the crew at American Stand Up
have traveled the world attending shows with our teams and fighters...but no
show made more of an impression on us than the "Elite Fighting
Challenge". Jamie, Jeremy Ridgeway and geniuses at www.PrototypeAdvertising.com
are truly putting together something special for their second event scheduled
for early November. It is an honor for American Stand Up to associate with
this event and we can't wait to see what the future holds. In addition,
this is a great opportunity to catch American Stand Up poster boy Mike
Wade (BV Fight Club) in action.
- American Stand Up's very popular American
1", "American 2", and "Army of Athletes" fight shorts
are back in stock. After being sold out for 6 months, the available sizes
are moving fast.
- American Stand Up fighters showed their
ground game at the 2008 Ohio Grappling Championships. Jon Meyer, Cody
Smith and Sean Barnett of Jody Poff's "Peak Submission Fight Team" all
won their division. If you have ever grappled or wrestled in Ohio...then
you know how incredible the talent is, and how ridiculous it is to have your
team go undefeated! Jon won the professional 185lb division and is
scheduled to move back to MMA where he will face UFC vet Joe Doerksen at the end
of the month. Below was Jon's last fight at "Art of War".
- Congratulations to
American Stand Up - Youth Team member Karson Carter on extending his
undefeated record with a second round TKO. If you run into Karson's dad,
Kole Carter, on the streets of Springfield, Missouri he is still smiling ear to
ear with pride in his son.
- Extremity Extreme
Games conducted another amazing event this past week in Auburn Hills,
Michigan. The Extremity Extreme Games offers a outlet for
amputee athletes to compete in "extreme" sports against their
peers. This year's event included a MMA tournament with 6 amputee
athletes. American Stand Up sponsored all the MMA athletes, including the XFC trained Brandon Holiday. Brandon is scheduled to make his professional
debut (in a non-amputee event) later this year.
- American Stand Up is proud to support "Don't Blink - The Exclusive Joe
Heiland Documentary". Jonathon Carmichael and Michael Wilkinson
of Studio Zero got it right with this documentary. They have have produced
an incredible insight into MMA. This is not the TapOut or mainstream MMA,
this is the roots as we all experience. Do not miss the opportunity to see
this video as it is expected to take home a few titles at the upcoming Indy Film
Festivals.
- Renato "Charto" Verissimo hosted an
incredible MMA seminar this weekend at "Moose" Huffman's ABI's MMA
Studio. Charuto is world renown for his ground game and
feature episode on TapOut. His ability to fight and teach reaches much
further than that...he has been in there against the best; including, Carlos
Newton, Matt Hughes, Jake Shields, and Frank Trigg. He is also a sick Novo Unoa
Jui-jitsu black belt expert and is BJ Penn's sensei.
- As continually reported on AmericanStand Up,
Dave Sheppard continues to dominate the world of MMA. Self trained with
"Small" Paul Martin, Dave has racked up a ridiculous undefeated record
and has won more titles than one person can carry. At Wi Combat Sports
"Extreme Challenge" he defeated the Clay Guida and Chase Beebe
cornered Ben Cerdes via Rd2 submission. Ben is a NCAA wrestling champ and
coach of "Top Gun" wrestling, but on this night he ran into a bad dude
in Dave Sheppard.
- American Stand Up has launched is youth
martial arts sponsorship program. The team at American Stand Up will
sponsor 50 youth teams in 50 states and will support these teams with travel and

- Congratulations to Jorge Gurgel on a
brilliant performance at UFC 86. Jorge dominated Cole Miller for 3 rounds
and showcased his incredible stand up skills. Unfortunately, Jorge was
caught in a triangle with 15 seconds left in the fight, but completely won the
crowd with his skill and heart. Check out Jorge's
performance on UFC.com "UFC In Demand".
American Stand Up specifically manufactured "Fight
Skin" vale tudo shorts for Jorge's fight and will re-offer JG
MMA's "Army Of Athletes" signature line on July 20, 2008. In addition to being one of the world's top Jiu Jitsu
and MMA fighters, Jorge is the most underrated trainers in the industry.
Rich Franklin, Marcus Davis, Dustin Hazelett and Matt Brown are just a few of
the fighters that have trained under Jorge's tutelage.
- American Stand Up shipping will be shut down
until July 16, 2008. The entire American Stand Up crew is heading out to
Las Vegas for UFC 86 and a few other seminars and meetings. If you have

"Stomping Grounds" this weekend in New Albany, IN. Eclectic
Kombat is an Eclectic Training Services, LLC production and the brain child of
local residents Craig Pumphrey, and Ivan Dale. The promotion is a Mixed Martial
Arts, or MMA, event and the vision is to promote a clean and exciting event,
focusing more on the sport and less on the sex-driven advertisement. The
Eclectic Kombat competition will follow the Unified Mixed Martial Arts Rules,
and feature a full fight card.
- Ron "Killing" Fields showcases
American Stand Up's brand new "Big Easy" loose fitting fight shorts at
HDNet's "Adrenaline MMA" card. Flexibility, comfort and
performance separate the "Big Easy" from the rest of the
industry.
- Malcolm Colvin is the
next generation of MMA fighter. He's a 5-year-old kid who trains and
dreams MMA, desiring to follow the footsteps of GSP and not MJ. This
footage of Malcolm pursing his dream was provided by long-time American Stand Up
friend and team member George Colvin. One day when Malcolm is fighting on
the UFC, they'll do a documentary on him and will reshow this footage.

- With MMA blogs and news sites popping up by
the hundreds, it is good to see Bill Murphy and From
The Gut at www.FromTheGut.us deliver
a unique perspective on the world of MMA. From the Gut does not have

die-hard MMA fans. On top of that Bill and the staff are outstanding ambassadors

- The 82nd
Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC produces many of this nations finest
warriors. This Saturday night one of those warriors, Gabriel
"Sgt. Fig" Figueroa, will be wearing American Stand Up colors while
representing the US Army and Team
ROC. Win or lose, Sgt. Fig is a true-life combatant and deserves your
support when he steps into the cage. American Stand Up co-founders,
Brandon Wengert and Paris Autumn, will be making the trip out to Ruckus
In the Cage in Charlotte, NC to stand in the corner of Sgt.
Fig.
- Update! Sgt
Fig defeated the very game Nick Tellez by 2nd Rd TKO in what was easily the
"Fight of the Night". More importantly, Sgt Fig received the
biggest ovation of the night during his ring walk. Fans, teammates and
competitors stood for Sgt Fig in appreciation for the sacrifice he and his
family make on a daily basis as members of the US Army.

American Stand Up is proud to launch "The
Irish Hand Grenade" Signature Line and to announce Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis
and Team Irish as the newest members of the American Stand Up fight team. Marcus is the most underrated fighter in the welterweight division right now. A contestant on season two of “The Ultimate
Fighter”, he has become one of the most improved fighters in the sport today. When
Marcus first started in the UFC, he was primarily
known as a world-class striker, but has since improved his jiu-jitsu game substantially.
His new ground game has been showcased in 11 wins in a row dating back to 2006,
including 6 by submission. He will look to continue his ride at UFC
85 "Ill Will" against another Ultimate Fighter alumna, Mike “Quick”
Swick. In addition to his ability to knock people out, Marcus is truly one of the coolest dudes and most down to earth fighters you'll ever meet.

In perfect American Stand Up fashion, Marcus "Mr. Untouchable" Ajian filled in with 2 days notice to fight a headliner on Robert Walker Sr's
"Bushi Combat III". Fortunately Marcus is a gym rat who is always in shape and only needed to cut 7 lbs to make weight.
When no 170 lb fighter would, Marcus stepped up to fight Ohio MMA legend, former
All-American Linebacker from Ohio State, and hometown hero...Chris Wells. Marcus shocked the thousands of people in attendance by dominating the
figh and forcing Chris to tapout due to anaconda choke 40 seconds into the
first round. In June of 2007, Marcus Ajian was the first fighter to sign with the American Stand Up and it was an incredible win for the entire team. -
Five in a row! Ron "Killing" Fields of Walker MMA notched his fifth victory in a row. Ron defeated Bobby Martinez via armbar Rd1 on
PrimeTimeFC's inaugural show "Inception". -
American Stand Up is proud to welcome Clyde
Lewis and Damage Inc training out of the American
Combat Academy in St. Cloud, MN to the team. Anybody who spends 5
minutes with Coach Lewis knows that he possesses unmatched passion for mixed martial arts and his
team. It is an
honor for American Stand Up to join forces with Damage Inc...and with talented
fighters like Adam McDonough, Josh Froelich, Shannon Scott, and Jason Dumbler underground fans

TKO Xtreme has received word that London, Ontario native Brandon “The Brick” Curts has signed an exclusive four-fight contract with the Maximum Fighting Championship.

- Dave
Sheppard of Team Takedown moved to 8-0 and picked up another world title this
weekend. Dave and Adam Brady of Fearless Fighting Systems put on the fight
of the night. Dave now needs an entourage to help carry his 4 titles with
him to the ring for his next fight. American Stand Up will be accepting
applications.
- 2.3 million viewers watched Brandon
"The Brick" Curts defeat highly touted Sean Wright on HDNet's "Maximum
Fighting Championships - Anger Management". There are few things
in life that are certain...but Brandon Curts dominating at 185lbs is
one. -
Another win for Ron "Killing" Fields
came by R1 TKO. Ron recently moved training to Walker MMA and this
knockout is a reflection of the hard work he has been putting in with Robert
Walker Sr. This victory only increases Ron's momentum as he moves towards
his huge featured fight on HDNet's "Adrenaline"
card on June 14. -
American Stand Up is proud to join the ABI's
Mixed Martial Arts team. ABI's MMA Studio is a next-generation
training facility located right outside Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in
Goldsboro, NC. Coaches "Moose" and "Chilly Willy"
create a team environment unlike any we've seen, and the gym is home to fighters
David Felton, Richie Allen and Hubert Edwards. -
Daryl Luigs of Gilbert
Grappling is the newest addition of the American Stand Up "Fight
Team". Under the world-class training of UFC veteran Joe Gilbert,
Daryl has fought to a 4-0 record and is the "Brawl at Bourbon Street"
Champion. -
Congratulations to Amir Khillah of Lightning
Kicks for his victory at "Crossroads Combat Challenge III" in
Effingham, IL. Amir Khillah defeated Dave Cochran via Rear Naked Choke
1:10 R2. Matt Hughes
Intensive Training Squad (HIT Squad) recently signed Amir and this was his
first fight under the training of Coach Hughes. In addition to his
victory,
the first episode of Amir's reality television show "Killer Killah"
was aired this weekend. -
Under the brilliant management of President,
John Prisco, and guidance of American Stand Up fighter and XFC lead trainer,
Haki Lee, The XFC has already set record-breaking attendance for their first two
“Salute Our Armed Forces” events, and will continue on that path with numbers 3 and 4 in the series, first at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky on June 7th 2008, and followed by June 28th at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.
